Ahh teething. The one surefire way to ruin a good night sleep for both Lily and Mommy! How frustrated I feel today over this teething thing. How cruel it is that a baby has to literally CUT teeth. Its so sad! She is on a great schedule with her sleeping. Nearly every night she is asleep by 7-7:30 and stays alseep all night until the 5 o'clock hour. Unless she is teething. At the present moment, I can see two tiny teeth trying to show their pearly heads on the top front of her mouth. As soon as they come through, I am sure that my tiny little lady will be back to normal and sleep will resume!
In other news, yesterday she showed a new skill! Ahead of "normal" predicted time, she is showing the ability to use her pincer grasp to pick up tasty treats and place them into her own mouth. This is both amazingly good and a little scary! If she can put small things in her mouth, she can put small things in her mouth! Food - good. Tiny rocks, dust bunnies, etc - decidedly bad! Although I already watch her like a hawk, I'm going to have to step up my game! LOL!
Crawling continues to elude her. She gets up on all fours and crawls her little legs off! She can move her legs like Fred Flintstone in his prehistoric car. Unfortunatley, she has not yet discovered that she must move har arms as well. This almost crawl inevitably leads to a belly flopping, inch-worming type crawl that does get her around, but also frustrates her! Additionally, she can spin around and around like nobody's business! She loves to maneuver herself all around and can get quite far inch-worming and spinning about!
Unfortunately, this also happens in her sleep and a couple of times a week, I am awakened by her plaintative cry. I go to her room only to find that her precious little head is squished up against the corner rails of her crib. As soon as I pull her back to the center, she drifts back to sleep head ache free!
She continues to love to watch everything around her. She is curious to no end! I think, secretly, that this means that she is really smart! She always seems to be taking in and absorbing all that is around her. She likes to look out of windows and really studies new people.
She continues to be a master of her walker. She is FAST! She runs so swiftly and can get through the smallest spaces. She likes to run an obstacle course in the dining room - around all the chairs and under the table! I had to remove the table cloth as that was just much too interesting for her!
It is clear that Lily and Mommy have a special bond. She now reaches out to me when she wants comfort. This is the most amazing thing that I have ever experienced. There is nothing in the world like your child holding her arms out to you. Sometimes when I take her, she buries her little face in my shoulder and neck. Ahhhh, priceless. She is breathtaking. She doesn't nuzzle for long - she is way too independent for all that - but when she does... sigh!
She has recently decided that she likes to flirt with her daddy! Her face lights up when Eric comes home and comes to speak/play with her! She cooes and smiles! She plays peek-a-boo and laughs. Its his reward for waiting out the months of colicky crying!
Another fascinating thing that she does is look to us for reactions. When she is unsure of a person or situation, she will look to see our reactions. If we seem comfortable, she puts on a brave face. That is amazing to watch. You can nearly see the wheels in her head turning!
If you want to see the saddest thing in the bathroom, take her toothbrush away! When I bathe her, I always brush her teeth. After Mommy does it, Lily does it. When it is time to get out, I take it away, rinse it, and put it up for the next bath. I have learned to immediatly have some sort of distraction available as the moment I try and take the toothbrush away, her face crumples into a giant frown and she begins to cry! It is the saddest thing! I don't know what it is about the toothbrush that she is so in love with, but taking it away is heartbreaking!
In very exciting news, Lily was baptized on August 14th! It was a very nice ceremony. Lily was so well behaved. There were nine babies and, not that I'm biased or anything, but Lily was the cutest! After the church ceremony, we had a big party here at home. Everyone came over and enjoyed a meal and hung out. Lily was really hilarious! She zoomed around the guests in her walker and was very cute and entertaining. Everyone was impressed with how nimble she is in the walker. She zoomed around like a tiny racer! Eventually she was worn out and took a nap. While she was napping, Cayman wanted to know when the "birthday party" would start. AKA, he wanted to know when I would open Lily's gifts! He was so charming that I asked him to help. He was amazing. So kind and helpful. A special thanks to Granny who made the Christening gown, Nana who made the cake, and Meme who took pictures and made a bunch of food!
